Black Pebble Beach, Breathtaking Cliffs, Huge Windmill and a Castle by the Sea at Geoje Island

Geoje Island is located on the southern coast of the mainland. It takes around 3 hours to get here by bus from Busan. It's a popular destination for tourists because of its nice beaches and breathtaking cliffs. Listed here are the recommended places to visit in Geoje.

Hakdong Black Pearl Pebble Beach 학동흑진주몽돌해수욕장 in Geoje 거제

This summer go somewhere unique!

A lot has been said about sandy beaches, sands of different colors and of powdery fine quality. But this iconic beach in Geoje Island offers something new!

As opposed to sandy beaches, this beach is comprised of smooth black pebbles which gives it a  unique character.

When the waves hit these pebbles, it creates the clinking sounds together with the crashing sound of the water that is so relaxing to hear.

Walking along barefooted along the smooth round pebbles is also a relaxing therapy on its own.

On good summer days, this is a great spot to relax and indulge in some fun water activities like jet skiing. They also have floats which you can rent and enjoy.

The water here is cool and FDA approved for swimming.

The facilities surrounding the island are modern and designed specifically to accentuate the area for quality relaxation.

You can set up a camp or rent a pension and do a barbecue. This place is highly recommended because of it's uniqueness and not being very touristy.

Restaurant Recommendation: Chungmu Halmae Gimbap 충무할매 김밥 in Hakdong Black Pearl Pebble Beach 학동흑진주몽돌해수욕장 in Geoje 거게

Recommended restaurant in Hakdong Black Pearl Pebble beach! If ever you visit this beach in Geoje, then it is recommended to eat here.

They serve a variety of delicious set combo which are  pretty good deals . We tried the  octopus fried rice 낙지볶음, seafood noodle soup 해물칼국수 and  the specialty of the area, chungmu gimbap 충무김밥.

It is a special kind of gimbap which originated in Chungmu ( now Tongyeong) where the inside is only rice. There is an interesting story behind it. The people in the area are fishermen so they had to make a food which doesn't spoil easily while at sea so instead of putting a filling inside, they decided to just wrap the plain rice with seaweed into bite size pieces, then eat them along with sidedishes, most commonly together with marinated squid and radish. Have a taste of this dish which is rich in historical, traditional and cultural background.

Their Haemul Kalguksu ( 해물칼국수), or seafood noodle soup is also good. The seafood are so fresh, they taste like fhey've just been caught straight from the sea.

The Nakji Bokkeum 낙지 볶음, octopus rice is just perfect, the sweetness and spiciness are just the right amount and the octopus are so soft.

Recommended Set Price:

Our next stop is...

Sinseondae Cliffs 신선대 and Windy Hill 바람의 언덕 in Geoje 거제

As one of the most popular places in Geoje, you should visit these spots if you enjoy walking along the sea breeze.
Sinseondae Cliffs are a sight to behold, you can walk along nicely shaped red, brown  and yellow rock formations as they are battered by the blue ocean waves.

The whole place is just so scenic and perfectly fits its name "Sinseon" 신선 meaning supernatural beings as it was said that this place was so beautiful, it attracts a lot of them here.

Windy Hill is a another place which truly matches its name. It's got a huge windmill on the top which makes a nice background for your photos.

The wind here is so strong and cool, it's relaxing to just let winds pass through your body as you enjoy the magnificent ocean views.

If you would look at the map, these two one-of-a-kind places are conveniently just beside each other so you can easily walk from one location to the next (10 mins).

Maemiseong 매미성 in Geoje 거제

It's interesting how this place was built by one man. When the typhoon Maemi "매미" struck his crops, he vowed to never let that happen again so he made a castle-like fortress which eventually became a tourist hotspot.  This place also has a lot of cafes to hang around.

There are many spots to take photos. Just be prepared to wait in line.
